Massage of trapezius

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that draws its roots from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), incorporating principles of acupuncture, but without the use of needles. The word shiatsu means 'finger pressure' in Japanese, and the technique involves applying rhythmic pressure to specific points on the body, known as acupressure points or meridians, to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. Developed in Japan in the early 20th century, shiatsu combines ancient healing wisdom with modern anatomical knowledge to create a holistic therapy that promotes balance and well-being.

As a UFPST certified Shiatsu practitioner, I use gentle but firm pressure with my thumbs, palms, and sometimes elbows or knees to stimulate the flow of qi (life energy) through the meridians. This helps release blockages, reduce stress, and address a range of physical and emotional imbalances. Shiatsu can be particularly effective for conditions such as back pain, headaches, digestive issues, fatigue, and anxiety.

Each treatment is highly individualized, based on careful listening and observation of your body’s unique needs. Whether used as a stand-alone therapy or integrated with other treatments like acupuncture or moxibustion, shiatsu supports your body’s natural healing process and helps restore harmony to both body and mind.
